INDO DOUGHNUT CORAL

The Indo Doughnut Coral (Acanthophyllia deshayesiana), often referred to as a Meat Coral, Button Coral, or simply “Doughnut Coral,” is a highly sought-after LPS coral known for its impressive size, soft fleshy mantle, and vivid coloration. Common hues include deep reds, metallic greens, purples, oranges, and even multicolor patterns that shift with lighting and mood.

This coral is solitary and does not branch, forming a single large polyp with a ridged, round skeletal base. It expands dramatically under ideal conditions, giving it a plump, inflated appearance reminiscent of a doughnut. Despite its peaceful nature, it can inflate enough to overshadow nearby corals, so careful placement is key.

Best kept on the substrate or low rockwork in areas of low to moderate flow and moderate lighting, the Indo Doughnut Coral prefers stability and a nutrient-rich environment. While it is photosynthetic, it benefits greatly from regular feedings of meaty foods such as mysis, chopped shrimp, or pellet diets designed for LPS.

Due to its size, feeding response, and environmental needs, it is best suited for stable, mature aquariums and handled with care during placement to avoid damaging its soft tissue.
