Additional Information
The Blastomusa Coral (Blastomussa spp.) is a stunning and relatively peaceful large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its fleshy, flower-like polyps and rich coloration. Common varieties include Blastomussa wellsi, which forms dome-shaped colonies of large, individual polyps, and Blastomussa merletti, which has smaller polyps and a denser, more branching growth.
Colors range from deep reds and oranges to vivid greens, purples, and even rainbow morphs. These corals thrive under moderate lighting and low to moderate water flow, which encourages full polyp extension and healthy growth. They are photosynthetic but benefit greatly from regular feedings of meaty microfoods like reef roids, mysis shrimp, or powdered coral foods.
Blastomusa corals are generally peaceful and well-suited to community reef tanks. Because of their slow growth and non-aggressive nature, they should be placed away from more aggressive LPS species. With proper care, they develop into lush, cushion-like colonies that glow beautifully under actinic lighting.
