The Elegance Coral (Catalaphyllia jardinei) is a highly recognizable and dramatic large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its long, waving tentacles, vivid colors, and broad, fleshy oral disc. It often features neon green, pink, or blue hues with contrasting tentacle tips—making it a standout showpiece in any reef aquarium.

Native to sandy reef slopes and lagoons, Elegance Corals prefer a soft substrate or flat rock in areas with low to moderate flow. Their tentacles can grow quite long and resemble those of an anemone, providing beautiful motion and dynamic presence in the aquarium. Despite their beauty, they are aggressive and can deliver strong stings to neighboring corals or even fish that come too close.

This coral thrives under moderate lighting and gentle, indirect water movement. While primarily photosynthetic, it benefits from occasional target feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialized LPS diets to support health and growth.

Although historically hardy, some specimens—especially from Indonesia—have shown sensitivity to shipping and stress, so stable water parameters and gentle acclimation are key. Once established, however, it can grow large and live for many years.
