ORANGE RIM PLATE CORAL

ORANGE RIM PLATE CORAL

The Orange Rim Plate Coral is a dazzling LPS coral featuring a vivid orange border surrounding a vibrant green, pink, or purple center—perfect for adding bold contrast and smooth texture to reef aquariums.

Additional Information

The Orange Rim Plate Coral (Fungia spp.) is a visually striking large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its distinct coloration and smooth, saucer-like shape. It typically displays a bright orange outer rim that sharply contrasts with an inner disc of green, purple, or pink, creating a vivid focal point on the aquarium sandbed.

Unlike its long-tentacle cousin (Heliofungia), this short-tentacle plate coral has shorter, uniform polyps and a flatter growth form. It is a free-living coral, meaning it does not attach to rockwork and can slowly move across the substrate. This makes it ideal for placement on open sandbeds, where it won’t damage or be damaged by surrounding corals.

Orange Rim Plate Corals are relatively hardy and adapt well to moderate lighting and low to moderate, indirect water flow. They are primarily photosynthetic but benefit from occasional target feeding of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or reef blends. With proper care, these corals can grow into impressive single-polyp discs several inches wide.
