Additional Information

The Red Lobo Brain Coral (Lobophyllia hemprichii) is a large-polyp stony coral known for its rich red fleshy tissue and classic brain-like ridges. Under blue LEDs, its colour deepens into a glowing crimson that stands out in mixed reefs. The thick tissue inflates beautifully during the day, giving this coral a soft, flowing appearance despite being an LPS.

This coral thrives in moderate lighting (PAR 80–150) and low to moderate flow, allowing the polyp tissue to stay fully expanded without irritation. Ideal placement is on the sand bed or lower rockwork, giving the coral space to open comfortably.

Lobos are semi-aggressive but only extend short sweeper tentacles of around 2–4 cm at night. With moderate spacing, they remain safe around most other LPS corals. Feeding 1–2 times weekly with mysis, brine shrimp, or LPS pellets improves colour saturation, growth, and fleshy expansion.
