Additional Information

The Acan Coral (Micromussa lordhowensis, formerly Acanthastrea lordhowensis) is a beloved large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its richly colored, fleshy polyps and compact, encrusting growth. Available in dazzling color combinations—ranging from neon reds, oranges, and greens to rare rainbows—Acan corals are a favorite among collectors and reef hobbyists alike.

Acan colonies grow as low, rounded clusters of fleshy polyps over rock surfaces, making them ideal for adding vibrant patches of color to lower and middle sections of the reefscape. They prefer moderate lighting and low to moderate water flow, which helps maintain full polyp extension and prevents tissue recession. Acans are peaceful but should be spaced from aggressive corals to avoid damage.

While photosynthetic, Acan corals thrive with regular target feeding of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, pellets, or reef-specific blends. Nighttime is ideal for feeding, when their feeder tentacles extend. With good nutrition and stable parameters, they grow steadily and can form stunning multi-colored colonies over time.
