PICASSO TRIGGERFISH

The Picasso Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus aculeatus), also known as the Lagoon Triggerfish or Humu Picasso, is an eye-catching reef fish admired for its vibrant, abstract coloration that resembles a painting. Native to the Indo-Pacific, it boasts a stocky body with angular lines and distinct facial markings in blue and yellow tones.

Growing up to 30 cm in length, the Picasso Triggerfish requires a minimum tank size of 300 liters, preferably larger due to its active swimming habits and territorial nature. It’s known for being hardy and intelligent but can become aggressive, especially toward smaller or more passive tank mates. This species is not recommended for peaceful community tanks.

While stunning, the Picasso Triggerfish is not considered reef-safe—it may nip at or consume invertebrates, crustaceans, and even corals. It is a carnivore with a hearty appetite and should be fed a varied diet of meaty foods such as chopped seafood, krill, clams, squid, and specially formulated marine predator pellets.

Due to its potential aggression and dietary needs, the Picasso Triggerfish is better suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists with large, well-maintained tanks.
