The Candy Cane Coral (Caulastrea furcata), also known as Trumpet Coral, is a popular LPS (Large Polyp Stony) coral loved for its ease of care and distinctive look. It features plump, fleshy polyps that sit atop tubular skeletal stalks, often glowing under actinic lighting with shades of neon green, teal, or brown with white ring-like stripes—hence the name “Candy Cane.”
This coral is excellent for beginners thanks to its hardy nature and peaceful temperament. It thrives in moderate lighting and low to moderate flow, making it suitable for various tank placements, typically in the lower to middle sections. Candy Canes are also fast growers under good conditions, eventually forming large, eye-catching colonies.
They benefit from occasional feeding (mysis shrimp, reef roids), though they can sustain themselves through photosynthesis. Candy Cane Coral is non-aggressive but should still have some space around it to avoid contact with more aggressive neighbors.
