GALAXEA CORAL

The Galaxea Coral (Galaxea fascicularis) is a striking large polyp stony (LPS) coral named for its star-like polyps and shimmering coloration. It typically features a branching or encrusting skeletal base topped with small, vibrant polyps in shades of green, brown, pink, or purple—often with glowing fluorescent tips that stand out under actinic lighting.

Though beautiful, Galaxea is known for its long, aggressive sweeper tentacles, which it extends—especially at night—to defend its territory. These can reach several inches beyond the base, making it essential to provide generous spacing from all other corals. Due to its aggressive nature, it’s best suited for more experienced reefkeepers who can plan its placement carefully.

This coral prefers moderate to high lighting and moderate water flow to keep detritus from settling between its dense polyps. While photosynthetic, Galaxea responds well to supplemental feedings of meaty microfoods like mysis shrimp or reef roids, especially during evening hours.
