LONGFIN BANNERFISH

The Longfin Bannerfish (Heniochus acuminatus), often referred to as the Poor Man’s Moorish Idol, is a graceful and eye-catching marine species. Its body features contrasting vertical black and white bands with bright yellow dorsal and caudal fins, and a flowing, elongated dorsal filament that resembles a banner waving in the water.
Growing up to 25 cm, the Longfin Bannerfish requires a minimum tank size of 300 liters to allow ample swimming space and to accommodate its social and active nature. It does best in tanks with live rock for grazing and hiding, and open areas for swimming. It is generally peaceful and can be kept singly, in pairs, or small groups, making it suitable for community aquariums.
Though often confused with its more delicate relative, the Moorish Idol, this species is hardier and more adaptable to aquarium life. It is considered reef-safe with caution, as it may occasionally nip at soft corals or feather dusters.
