LONG TENTACLE PLATE CORAL (MEDIUM)

The Long Tentacle Plate Coral (Heliofungia actiniformis) is a distinctive large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its long, elegant tentacles that resemble those of an anemone. Unlike its short-tentacle Fungia cousins, this species displays extended, flowing polyps that move beautifully in gentle currents, adding dynamic motion and character to reef tanks.

Typically found in colors ranging from brown and tan to vibrant greens and purples, Heliofungia corals make a dramatic focal point when fully extended. They prefer moderate to strong lighting and low to moderate, indirect water flow to avoid tissue damage. While they can inflate and move slightly on the sandbed, care should be taken to ensure they’re not in strong currents or near sharp rocks.

Long Tentacle Plate Corals are sensitive to handling but can thrive with stable water parameters and regular target feeding. They are photosynthetic but benefit significantly from supplemental feedings of meaty fare like chopped mysis shrimp or enriched brine shrimp. Due to their mobility and delicate tissue, these corals should be placed in open, sandy areas with plenty of space.
