Additional Information
The Encrusting Montipora (Montipora sp.) is a small polyp stony (SPS) coral known for its ability to grow over rock surfaces in smooth, colourful sheets. It comes in a wide range of striking colours — bright greens, deep reds, purples, oranges, and neon mixes — all of which glow intensely under blue lighting. Encrusting Montiporas add structure, depth, and a premium SPS look to any reef aquarium.
This coral thrives in moderate to high lighting (PAR 180–300) and strong, stable water flow, which helps maintain its colouration and smooth growth pattern. Placement is flexible, but it performs best on middle to upper rockwork where it can encrust and spread naturally.
Although peaceful, it grows quickly and can overtake nearby corals if placed too close. Leave at least 3–5 cm of spacing and monitor growth direction. Montipora benefits from stable water chemistry and regular feeding of SPS powders, reef roids, or fine planktonic foods to maintain rich pigmentation.
