Additional Information

The Lobed Brain Coral (Lobophyllia spp.) is a show-stopping large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its thick, fleshy tissue and deeply grooved, lobed surface. These corals come in a dazzling array of colors—often featuring vivid reds, oranges, greens, blues, and multi-colored combinations with fluorescent highlights under actinic lighting.

Lobophyllia can take on a variety of growth forms, including single or multi-lobed colonies and meandering ridge structures, making each specimen visually unique. They thrive under moderate lighting and low to moderate water flow, which allows their fleshy polyps to stay inflated and undisturbed. Placement on the bottom or lower rockwork is ideal, with ample space from neighboring corals due to their semi-aggressive nature and occasional sweeper tentacles.

These corals are photosynthetic but respond well to target feeding with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or enriched coral blends, especially at night when their feeding tentacles are visible. With stable water conditions and proper spacing, Lobed Brain Corals can live for many years, gradually forming impressive colonies that anchor the aesthetic of a mature reef tank.
