The Black Widow Yuma Mushroom (Ricordea yuma) is a rare and premium soft coral prized for its bold contrast and striking colours. It features a dark black to charcoal base covered in bright red, orange, and sometimes yellow vesicles, giving it the dramatic “Black Widow” appearance. Under blue lighting, the colours intensify brilliantly, making it a standout centrepiece on any rock structure.

This Yuma thrives in low to moderate lighting (PAR 50–120) and low water flow, which allows its vesicles to remain fully inflated. It adapts well to most reef systems but prefers stable conditions with slightly higher nutrients than SPS-dominated tanks.

Place the coral in the lower to middle section of the aquarium on rock rubble or a smooth surface. Ensure good spacing — while not aggressive, Ricordea yuma can expand up to 6–8 cm in diameter and may crowd nearby mushrooms or soft corals.

Feed once weekly with small meaty foods (mysis, brine, reef roids, or fine coral foods) to promote growth, colour enhancement, and splitting.
